Not a Closed Book at All
Revelation 1

"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein for the time is at hand."  Revelation 1:1-3.

The chain of command from those in heaven even before the message was given to John, shows the importance of this book.  It becomes a blessing to us when we read and hear this book read.

"In view of the revelation made to John on the isle of Patmos, which from the opening of the first chapter to the close of the last chapter, is light, great light, revealed to us by Jesus Christ, who chose John to be the channel through whom this light was to shine forth to the world..." Testimonies to Ministers 443.

Verses 4 to 20 tells us much information about Jesus appearance, his garments, and the day of the week He appeared to John.  "It was on the Sabbath that the Lord of glory appeared to the exiled apostle". Acts of the Apostles 581.

"REVELATION" means that something of importance is revealed.   The truths of this book are addressed to those living in these last days.  We are standing with the veil removed in the holy place of sacred things.  We are not to stand without.  We are to enter, not with careless, irreverent thoughts, not with impetuous footsteps, but with reverence and godly fear.  We are nearing the time when the prophecies of the book of Revelation are to be fulfilled." Testimonies to Ministers 113

"The solemn messages that have been given in their order in the revelation are to occupy the first place in the minds of God's people.  Nothing else is to be allowed to engross our attention."  Vol. 8 Testimonies 302.

The seven churches are introduced here in chapter one, but it is in Revelation two and three where one understands their important message.
